General Questions

 

1- Where are YTÜ’s campuses located? Which campus is our department on?

Yıldız Technical University has three campuses: Yıldız (Beşiktaş), Davutpaşa (Esenler), and Maslak.

Our department is located on the Davutpaşa Campus within the Faculty of Education.

 

 

2- What is the language of instruction?

The language of instruction for all programs in our department is Turkish.

 

 

3- Is there a summer school (summer session) as part of the academic program?

Our university offers a summer school for undergraduate students. Detailed information about the summer school is available on the Office of Student Affairs website (http://www.ogi.yildiz.edu.tr/).

 

 

4- Are there housing options available for students at YTÜ?

Our dormitories are arranged to accommodate 536 female and 536 male students at the Davutpaşa Campus, and 272 female and 272 male students at the Maslak Campus.

Yıldız Technical University provides students coming from outside the province with comfortable, peaceful, and safe housing options. At the Davutpaşa Campus, we have three dormitories with a total capacity of 131 students: the 96-bed Çağdaş Yaşam Sennur Selçuk Öztap Women’s Dormitory, the 14-bed Istanbul Girls’ High School Alumni Dormitory, and the 21-bed Şehide Türkan Türkmen Tekin Women’s Student Dormitory. Additionally, the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Student Dormitory, affiliated with the Credit and Dormitories Institution (KYK), is also located on the Davutpaşa Campus. A cooperation protocol has been signed between our university and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to provide housing for more female students. Under this agreement, a girls’ dormitory with a total enclosed area of 41,882 m², comprising three dormitory blocks (35,133 m²) and a social facilities block (6,474 m²), totaling 41,882 m² of enclosed space, is nearing completion. The new women’s dormitory consists of 447 dorm rooms that will accommodate 1,782 students, as well as a conference hall, study rooms, and social areas. 

 

 

5- Is it possible to “Transfer Between Programs” or pursue a “Double Major” at YTÜ?

Our university offers the option to transfer between associate’s and bachelor’s degree programs and to pursue a double major. 6- Are the campuses equipped with health services, infirmaries, and doctors?

Health services are provided to students, academic and administrative staff, their dependents, and retired university personnel at the Medical-Social Health Units located on the Beşiktaş and Davutpaşa Campuses of Yıldız Technical University. The Medico-Social Health Center operates as a unit under the Directorate of Health, Culture, and Sports. The Medico-Social unit includes dental, psychological support, emergency, radiology, and laboratory services.

 

 

7- What are the sports facilities like?

There are sports facilities at the Davutpaşa Campus, where our department is located. These include a semi-Olympic indoor swimming pool, a fitness center, tennis courts, and soccer fields. The indoor swimming pool offers swimming lessons for beginners, summer sports camps for children, training sessions to prepare our school teams for competitions, and swimming technique classes taught by the Physical Education Department. 8- Is it possible for me to participate in the Erasmus+ Student Mobility program during my undergraduate or graduate studies?

Our undergraduate and graduate students have the opportunity to participate in the Erasmus+ student mobility program. You can access the list of partner universities and the participation requirements through the Erasmus+ program unit’s website (http://www.erasmus.yildiz.edu.tr/) or by contacting the Erasmus Coordinator for the Department of Educational Sciences.

 

 

Questions Regarding Graduate Education

 

9- Where and how should I submit my application for graduate studies (Thesis-Based/Non-Thesis Master’s and Doctoral programs)?

Applicants wishing to pursue graduate studies must submit their applications through the Institute of Social Sciences. Detailed information regarding application deadlines, procedures, and requirements is available at sbe.yildiz.edu.tr. 

 

 

10- How can I access the information I need during my graduate studies?

During your graduate studies, you can obtain course-related information and documents from the relevant faculty member. However, for matters such as graduation requirements, military service, course registration, student certificates, student ID cards, forms, and course credit transfers, you must contact the Institute of Social Sciences.

 

 

11- How can I access the forms I need during my graduate studies?

The primary source of information for this is the Institute of Social Sciences website (http://www.sbe.yildiz.edu.tr/). For forms not available there, you can access them by clicking the “Forms” button under the “Quality Documents” tab on the Quality Coordination Office website (http://www.kalite.yildiz.edu.tr/).

 

 

12- How do I obtain the Academic Ethics Committee Certificate required to conduct scientific research during my graduate studies?

Students who need to obtain an “Academic Ethics Committee Report” for their research can submit their applications online at www.etik.yildiz.edu.tr.

 

 

13- Is it possible to transfer from a non-thesis master’s program to a thesis-based master’s program?

Students currently enrolled in a non-thesis master’s program may apply to transfer to a thesis-based master’s or integrated doctoral program—provided that a program with the same name exists and they meet the minimum requirements established for the thesis-based master’s or integrated doctoral program for the semester in question. Transfers to these programs are limited to the quota determined by the Departmental Board’s recommendation and the Graduate School Council’s decision. Applications are submitted to the Institute through the Department Chair and are decided upon by the relevant Graduate School Council. 14- I missed the application deadline for graduate school, but I’m very eager to apply. Can I still apply?

No.

 

 

15- I do not meet the bachelor’s degree and work experience requirements, but I am currently serving as a guidance counselor. Can I apply for the non-thesis master’s program in Counseling and Psychological Guidance?

No.

 

 

16- Does the non-thesis master’s program count as teacher certification?

A non-thesis master’s degree does not count as teacher certification.

 

 

17- How should I choose my graduate-level courses?

You should select them according to the course catalog published on the Department of Educational Sciences website.

 

 

18- My student password wasn’t sent to my email—what should I do?

You can send an email to the YTÜ Information Technology Directorate.

 

 

19- What should I do and who should I contact for adding or dropping courses, suspending enrollment, etc.?

Please review the undergraduate/graduate student regulations. Contact the Department of Educational Sciences Secretary’s Office for the necessary procedures.

 

 

20- I am a master’s student in the PDR program (with or without a thesis). Do I have to take all the courses listed in the program?

To complete the program in two semesters, you must take all the courses listed in the program. If you do not, the remaining courses will be completed in the third semester. 

 

 

21- How can I access the graduate program (Thesis-Based Master’s, Non-Thesis Master’s, and Doctoral) application announcement regarding enrollment quotas and application requirements?

It can be accessed through the “Announcements” section of the YTÜ Institute of Social Sciences website.

22- What are the requirements for course credit transfer?

ARTICLE 19- (1) Students who have transferred laterally or who have withdrawn from graduate programs at other higher education institutions and have enrolled in our graduate programs, may have up to 3 (three) courses they previously took at the graduate level counted toward the elective and/or required course load defined by the relevant department, provided that the grade earned in those courses meets the minimum grade requirement for the program to which they are applying.

(2) If students who have been dismissed from Institute programs for any reason are subsequently admitted to the same program, the courses they have taken may be counted toward their course load in accordance with the course load completion rules set forth in Article 17.

(3) Students who graduate from our university’s non-thesis master’s programs and enroll in a thesis-based master’s program or an integrated doctoral program with the same name may have the courses they took during their non-thesis master’s education counted toward their course load, provided they comply with the course load completion rules set forth in Article 17.

(4) A maximum of 3 (three) courses that a student has previously taken and successfully completed while enrolled as a special student may be counted toward the student’s course load.

(5) The “Research Methods and Scientific Ethics” course that a student has taken and successfully completed at the graduate level is credited in addition to the course credit procedures specified above.

(6) A student wishing to have courses credited must, within 6 (six) months from the date of enrollment in a program at the University (excluding time spent in the scientific preparation program), submit a written request to the Department Chair, along with the course syllabus(es) of the course(s) they wish to have credited. The course credit transfer process is finalized based on the recommendation of the Department Chair and the decision of the Institute’s Administrative Board.

(7) The grade conversion table established by the Senate is used for grade conversion procedures.

 

 

23- What are the form numbers that must be used according to their functions in graduate studies?

24- What letter grade is required to pass a graduate-level course?

To pass a course, the grade must be at least CB (2.50) for master’s programs and at least BB (3.00) for doctoral programs.
