It is becoming increasingly difficult to adapt to an evolving and changing society, make the best choices among endless options, and make realistic decisions. In this increasingly challenging world, individuals need psychological support to better understand themselves, solve their problems, and utilize their full potential. Professions that provide this support are gaining greater importance, with guidance and psychological counseling standing out among these fields.
Admission to the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Guidance and Psychological Counseling is based on TM–3 scores among high school graduates. The program lasts four years, and attendance is mandatory. According to our university’s Regulations on Education, Teaching, and Examinations, relative evaluation is the primary method.
At our university, within the Department of Educational Sciences, undergraduate education is offered exclusively in the Division of Guidance and Psychological Counseling. The language of instruction in our sub-department, which began offering education in the 2011–2012 academic year, is Turkish. During the first two years of their undergraduate education, our students take courses in various fields such as psychology, sociology, and educational sciences. In the third and fourth years of the program, the curriculum includes field-specific courses such as principles and techniques of psychological counseling, vocational guidance and counseling practices, individual and group psychological counseling practices, and theories of psychological counseling. The Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling is staffed by three professors, two associate professors, and three research assistants. Our department’s program continues to evolve in terms of teaching quality, conditions, and both qualitative and quantitative standards.
Graduates of the Guidance and Psychological Counseling program can work as psychological counselors (guidance teachers) in educational institutions such as public schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, Guidance Research Centers, private schools, university psychological counseling centers, and private tutoring centers. In addition to educational institutions, our graduates have employment opportunities in fields such as health, social services, justice, security, industry, and business.
